The Narrative Self
- Ask your client to introduce themselves, in less than a minute,
to a potential employer.
- Ask your client to introduce themselves, in less than a minute,
to a potential lover.
- Ask your client to introduce themselves, in less than a minute,
to a new elderly neighbour.
- Ask them to compare these stories. Is any one of them more true
than the others? What made them similar? What made them
different?
- Ask them to explore the difference between a “narrative” and
the truth, as found in their words. Are they the same?
- Can you, as the practitioner, guide them towards seeing that
these are merely stories about ourselves, and as such, they
are just contextually appropriate, temporary predictions?
