Reactivity

This is the first exercise for Stage 4 of the Odoki Method.

  • Bring to mind something that is less than perfect about your life (small, not major).
  • Notice what happens in your body, noticing where in your body it is - this is your “felt sense”.
  • Now, notice what happens next. Notice what happens when we feel that “felt sense” - do we pull it towards us, or try to push it away?
  • Notice, is there a reaction? If there is, what is that reaction - emotionally?
  • Now reflect, are there other possible reactions? Other ways or responding, sensible or not?
  • If there are multiple possible reactions, what makes your actual reaction “right”, or “necessary”?
  • Is your reaction necessary, or could you choose not to have it, given other reactions are possible? What if there was no need for a reaction at all?
