This exercise forms a part of Stage 5 of the Odoki Method.
- Bring to mind something that we are reacting to
- Notice how that feels in the body
- Now we ask ourselves, is this feeling in the body “okay”?
- If it is okay, we rest in that.
- If it is not okay, then we can ask, “is it okay for it to be not-okay”?
- We recognise the okayness that is present in experience.
- Then, within that, we look for any “not-okayness” that is present, and check whether it is okay to be not-okay.
- We recall that we’re only asking about okayness in this moment. Is it okay for this to be here, now?
If we find some parts of us objecting, saying they’re not okay, perhaps we can try this:
- Are you okay? (Presumably we get a “no” answer).
- So, should I then get rid of you? (I expect we’ll get a “no!!” answer)
- So we ask, “Is it okay you being here then?”
