Having learned about the felt sense (e.g. two people), we can start to use this in every day life.
The felt sense can be very useful in making decisions - especially if we have reached a state of “decision paralysis”, where there’s too much information for us to process in order to come to a meaningful conclusion.
- Firstly, bring to mind the decision. Notice our felt sense.
- Secondly, identify how many options there are to choose between. If more than three, pick what seem like the most likely three (for now).
- For each of our choices, bring the decision to mind, along with the choice.
- Sit with this for a little while. Definitely more than ten seconds, maybe up to a minute.
- Do we get any sense of this option?
- Now repeat this for the other options.
- Finally, bring together the felt senses of all our options.
- Do any of them give us a clear answer? Do some feel more “right” than others?
If we don’t get a clear answer, can we break the decision down into smaller parts. E.g. “what might help me make this decision?” and sit with the felt sense around that?
