Anxiety Protects

We may have seen that some anxiety is actually trying to protect us. This in itself can be surprising.

This exercise is aimed at bedding this in. Repeat these steps on a few anxious situations. For the sake of learning, it is better to pick small or medium sized examples, rather than large. The large ones will benefit as we become adept.

  • Bring to mind an anxious scenario.
  • Notice in how you feel in your body when you bring this to mind.
  • Check with yourself - is this feeling trying to protect you?
  • What is it trying to protect you from?
  • Can you appreciate it for trying to protect you from that?

We can go deeper into this exploration later, but for now, just sit with how it feels to notice that our anxiety is trying to protect us.
