In this exercise we explore a subtler form of identity, where even though we don’t experience a “self”, we still identify aspects of experience as “mine”.
- Close your eyes
- Bring to mind a scenario that raises energy - seems important somehow
- Notice the felt sense that comes with this scenario
- Ask yourself, “Is this mine?” “Is there any ‘me’ in this?”
- Check whether you get a response.
- If yes, then look for where exactly is it?
- What about the experience makes it “mine” as opposed to just sensations?
- If it doesn’t feel like yours, try looking away. Does it then feel yours? If so, give it the same investigation.
- Is there anything in this experience that makes it “mine” other than a label on sensation?
