Inference Challenge (IC)

Inference Challenge (IC)

An Inference is where we “infer” from other experience - another word for a prediction.

Inference Challenge, as its name suggests, involves challenging our predictions.

Typically a practitioner guides a client through an exercise specifically designed to help them see some aspect of their experience differently - and this seeing their experience differently causes a prediction error event - causes the brain to, by necessity, create a new prediction.

Predictions occur at various depths, some are simple (as previously mentioned in a magic trick). Some are much deeper, such as those associated with our sense of identity.

A practitioner can align the exercises they take a client through to the client’s level of comfort and willingness to accept the ramifications of the ensuing prediction errors. A practitioner will naturally guide a client gently, increasing this depth slowly over time.
